Sea Views - From a Different Angle

Did the "normal" panoramic shots of the coast, then reverted to my usual style, and looked at things, From a Different Angle. Here is what I saw.

Sea Views - South Coast

There is a distinct difference between the coastal regions to the North and South of Durban. The vegitation is slightly different, for example the North has more and and larger trees. Then the beach sand itself, South is finer grains and less broken sea shells that on finds to the North.

Sea Views North Coast

The North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal has a beauty that is unsurpassed. Here are a few photographs taken  with the only camera a have in my hand at present, a tiny little Cannon PowerShot A2400, hell my pack of smokes is bigger than this camera.

From a Different Angle #

I have often heard a photographer say of a great photograph, “Oh if I had that guys equipment I could also take great photos.”
I do not believe this is true. I hit the streets for a few hours with a small camera, and while I cannot claim any of these photographs are great, I will concede that they are not too shabby. A lot to do of why they are not bad is; look at things......

Photography 101 - Pets and Birds Eye View

Photography 101

Online Photography Club

Birds Eye View

Birds Eye View. A photo from the top down. Sometimes one needs a lather to get a high enough angle. This can be good candid shots but not likely to capture the essence of the Story one wants to tell. Every picture tells a story. The story is all about the essence. If you miss that you have mist the catch phrase. When recording a story of your pet you must look at the different angles to capture the soul of your pet/baby or toy.

a Singular picture can tell a story, but that is mostly landscape, In this picture the cute puppy looks lost and defenceless. This little rascal is actually a highly intelligent wanderer with great escaping abilities. So we looking at angles to ensure the esense of the story is told in a picture.

In This Picture I tried to Capture Pardette's Free Spirit
Taking this shot from a Bird's Eye View would not include the wide expanse of her outdoor lifestyle. By no means this is a winning photograph, but surely one that will help tell in her Scrapbook to tell the people what she loves most.

This picture the cellphone flashed failed to light up the room
Failure of equipment can sometimes lead to some amazing exposures. With a Cellphone you don't have the ability to focus on the subject and blank out the back ground, but from the right angle and with the right pose one can still get a nice enough scrapbook picture to show how royal your pussy really is.

From a Different Angle 7

While working at a bush camp I made a vegetable garden. Now I did take some photographs of the actual garden and even some of the fruits of my labour but  one day this spray head caught my attention.

Just beyond this fence was a whole herd of Eland, very large antelope, of course I took photographs of them; but I also saw this spider’s web.

From a Different Angle 6

In From a Different Angle 2  and then again 4, I mentioned, “Piece of advice; never delete ANY of your photographs, you may take an interest in photoshop and need them one day.”
I cannot emphasize this enough. Some people, very few now-a-days, may never use photoshop, but as you are reading a blog, you are likely to be writing one, or commenting on one soon. That funny/bad photo you deleted? “Hell, it would have been perfect for…”

The first photo is a closeup of a crocodiles tail, I must admit some of my shots have been a bit risky; but I am still more weary of a hippo than a croc.

I am not sure what I will use this photograph for, but taking my own advice I am going to keep it.

Some of the photos in this series are going to be poor quality, as they were taken with a cell phone camera, and not a very good cell phone at that! We all get those moments when we curse the fact that our camera is not with us. Or living in South Africa, it has been stolen! They are here just to show “looking from a different angle.”
A person can have the best equipment money can buy, and get a high quality, mega pixel, in focus shot every time, no problem.  But then the composition can be lousy, no matter how interesting the subject is, and if the shot is not pleasing to the eye, is a snapshot, nothing more, nothing less.
So you go learn all about composition, the “rule of thirds”, and even take it further and go for the rule of 5ths. Your photographs are now 100% better, but still not THE best.
At Photography 101 we will not only teach you the above, but will show you how to LOOK, first with your own eyes and only then through the view finder. The first photo I admit has been hanging around for years and I found now use for it, until now that is.
The second photo has been used a few times on some sites about the ongoing droughts in parts of South Africa. I still have plans to use it in some photoart when I get the chance.

In From a Different Angle 2 I mentioned, “Piece of advice; never delete ANY of your photographs, you may take an interest in photoshop and need them one day.”

The first photograph is just an shot with little thought other than I may use this one day. The second photograph is made from a similar shot, unfortunately the original is lost. I have since learned to make backups of my backups!

From a Different Angle 3

Both these photos were taken at a time when I was living in an extremely ugly place and neighborhood.

The first photo was taken in the semi-abandoned factory I was living in. It is one of many that I took and became a part of a collection I called “Though Dirty Windows.”

The second was taken while working on a project with my friend Tanisha, she is a photographic artist who’s work portrays man’s destruction of the environment. We spent a lot of time at one of Johannesburg’s larger dump sites. This lonely boot in the middle of the access road caught my attention.

The Barber Shop sign just caught my eye, but the dead rat I, literally, smelled out. The rat became part of a collaborative piece of art work I did with Tanisha Bhana and was shown in art galleries around the world. Piece of advice; never delete ANY of your photographs, you may take an interest in photoshop and need them one day.

Photo Series – From a Different Angle 1

There are most likely 1000’s of photographic clubs and photography courses available, so indeed, why, Photography 101? As I am only one of the managers of the site, I can only tell you from my point of view, if you will excuse the pun. And that statement actually sums it up quite nicely.
